The 6-day Jbel Saghro Trek Morocco is one of the most spectacular hiking adventures in southern Morocco. Situated between the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains and the golden Sahara Desert, the Saghro Massif is world-renowned for its dramatic volcanic rock formations, deep canyons, green oases, traditional Berber villages, and ancient nomadic routes. This guided trek is designed for outdoor enthusiasts seeking an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience.

Immerse yourself in a landscape bathed in warm desert light where the southern breezes welcome you to the gates of the Sahara. From September through May, we invite you to explore the wild beauty of Jebel Saghro, located south of the Valley of Roses and the Draa Valley. Rising to an altitude of 2,712 meters, this volcanic massif features surreal lunar plateaus, soaring peaks, and the legendary encampments of the nomadic Ait Atta tribe.

Detailed 6-Day Jbel Saghro Trek Morocco Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech − Tizi n’Tichka − Ouarzazate − Tagdilt

We depart early in the morning from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m). We continue through Ouarzazate and the Dades Valley, famous for its historic kasbahs. Passing across arid desert plateaus, we arrive at the Berber village of Tagdilt (1,650 m). Night spent in a local guesthouse (gîte).
Drive time: ~6 hours.

Day 2: Tagdilt − Col Tizi n’Iferd − Iferd Plateau (2,250 m)

Our 6-day Jbel Saghro trek in Morocco begins as we load our baggage onto the mules. We ascend through the pass of Tizi n’Iferd (2,400 m), which offers stunning panoramic views back toward the Central High Atlas range. We then descend onto the high plateau of Iferd, a traditional pasture ground for transhumant Ait Atta nomads. Overnight in tents at 2,250m.
Walking time: ~5.5 hours.

Day 3: Almou n’Ouarg − Kouaouch Summit (2,600 m) − Igli

Today brings a highlight of the trek: climbing to the summit of Mount Kouaouch (2,600 m). This straightforward climb rewards us with spectacular 360-degree views across the entire Saghro range. After enjoying a picnic lunch at the top, we descend toward Tassegdilt and reach the picturesque oasis of Igli (1,700 m). Overnight camp in Igli.

Day 4: Igli − Afourar Gorges − Bab n’Ali − Ighazzoun Oasis

We follow the Afourar Valley as it narrows into dramatic gorges before reaching the small oasis of Bouallouz and Ousdidene. The scenery unfolds into an open plateau dominated by the iconic twin rock spires of Bab n’Ali. After exploring these majestic geological towers, we continue to the green oasis of Ighazzoun for our bivouac.

Day 5: Ighazzoun Oasis − Tifdassine Pass − Handour

Leaving Ighazzoun behind, we climb over the Tifdassine pass and descend along a charming valley lined with almond and palm trees. Enjoy a peaceful trail lunch under the shade of almond trees before continuing to the traditional mud-brick village of Handour. Overnight camp.
Walking time: ~5 hours.

Day 6: Handour − N’kob − Agdez − Ouarzazate − Marrakech

On the final morning of our 6-day Jbel Saghro Trek Morocco, we say goodbye to our loyal team of local muleteers. Our transfer vehicle takes us through N’kob, Agdez, and the Draa Valley, returning over the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.
Drive time: ~7 hours.
