Itinerary for 4 Days Trekking Desert Morocco
Day 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Ouled Driss
Setting off early from Marrakech, we head towards Ouarzazate, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, Morocco’s highest mountain road pass at an altitude of 2,260 meters. Descending into the picturesque Draa Valley, known for its historic fortified villages (ksars) and kasbahs, we reach Ouled Driss. Here, we meet our camel team. We enjoy dinner and spend the night in desert tents.
Drive distance: approx. 450 km. Overnight in desert camp.
Day 2: Ouled Driss – Lahnaniche Dunes
Our trek leads us across a stunning desert plateau towards Lahnaniche. We pass by historical kasbahs and ancient mud-brick structures, reflecting the region’s rich history. Lunch is prepared and served in the shade of tamarisk trees. After an additional 1.5 hours of walking, we reach our campsite nestled amidst the Lahnaniche dunes.
Walking time: approx. 5 hours. Overnight in desert camp.
Day 3: Lahnaniche – Ras Nkhal
After breakfast, we trek alongside the sweeping desert dunes. Our chef prepares a fresh lunch in the shade of palm trees. We continue our hike toward the entrance of M’hamid and the palm groves of Ras Nkhal, setting up camp for the night under tents or the open starry sky.
Walking time: approx. 5.5 hours. Overnight in desert camp.
Day 4: Ras Nkhal – Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
We begin our return journey to Marrakech with a stop in Tamegroute to explore its famous green pottery workshops and ancient library. After lunch along the scenic route, we arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
Drive duration: approx. 7 to 8 hours return transfer.
