Detailed 6-Day Tassaout Valley Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Azilal – Ait Bougmez Valley (Agouti)

We start with a morning drive from Marrakech toward Azilal, known as the gateway to the Central High Atlas. After lunch in Azilal, we cross the scenic Oughbar Pass (2,200 m) before descending through the Abbas Valley to reach Agouti, the first village of the Ait Bougmez Valley.
Night in a local Berber gîte. (Drive time: approx. 5 hours)

Day 2: Ait Bougmez Valley (1,750 m) – Arouss Valley – Ikiss N’Arouss (2,300 m)

Our trekking route departs from Agouti through the fertile fields and walnut orchards of Ait Bougmez, passing the stone villages of Ait Ziri and Idekalen. We then ascend into the Arouss Valley to observe traditional adobe architecture and nomadic pastoral life at Azib N’Ikiss (the sheepfolds of Arouss).
Walking time: 4.5 hours | Night in mountain tents at Azib N’Ikiss (2,300 m).

Day 3: Azib N’Ikiss (2,300 m) – Tarkedit Pass (3,400 m) – Tarkedit Plateau (2,900 m)

Today we climb to the high Tarkedit Pass (3,400 m), rewarding us with panoramic views of the M’goun Mountain Range and its summit reaching 4,068 meters. We then descend to the broad Tarkedit Plateau, an alpine pasture frequented by nomad herders during the summer months.
Walking time: 5.5 hours | Elevation: +1,100 m / -500 m | Night in mountain tents on the plateau.

Day 4: Tarkedit Plateau – Sdremt Pass (3,250 m) – Tassaout Valley (Imin Ikkis)

After crossing the plateau, we follow mountain trails up to the Sdremt Pass (3,250 m), where panoramic vistas over the Tassaout Valley unfold. Descending into the valley, we stop for lunch in the village of Tassgaiwalte before reaching the shepherd settlements at Imin Ikkis (2,100 m).
Walking time: 5.5 hours | Night in tents near Imin Ikkis.

Day 5: Imin Ikkis (2,100 m) – Ait Hamza – Ait Ali N’Itto – Megdaz

We descend along the river through the red-clay villages of Ichbbaken and Ait Hamza, arriving at Ait Ali N’Itto (1,800 m). From here, we turn into a side valley to reach Megdaz, renowned for its multi-story defensive towers (tighremts) and stone-and-mud architecture.
Walking time: 5.5 hours | Elevation: -500 m | Night in tents or traditional gîte near Megdaz.

Day 6: Megdaz – Fakhour – Imi N’Ifri – Marrakech

Our final walking stretch brings us along the river past Ait Alla to Fakhour (approx. 3 hours walking). Under the shade of large walnut trees, our team cook prepares a final lunch. We then meet our driver for the return journey to Marrakech, stopping along the way to admire the natural stone arch bridge at Imi N’Ifri near Demnate.
