Itinerary of the 5-Day Family Trek Morocco Sahara Desert

Day 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Nesrat

Departure is scheduled around 8:00 AM from Marrakech heading towards Ouarzazate, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Upon arrival in Ouarzazate, Morocco’s cinema capital, we cross the Anti-Atlas range before descending into the Draa Valley with its magnificent fortified villages (ksars) and the city of Zagora. We reach the vast desert surrounding Nesrat, where we meet our local team of camel handlers. Overnight stay in desert tents.
Drive duration: approx. 7 hours. Overnight in desert camp.

Day 2: Nesrat – Bou Gaiwarne Dunes – Tidri Dunes

This day marks our first hiking experience. We walk down the Draa Valley, passing through charming traditional villages like Ignaoun and Moulay Ali Achrif, giving you the opportunity to meet local inhabitants. We then head towards the village of Zaouiat Sidi Salah. Lunch is prepared fresh by our chef amidst a shade-providing oasis. After about 1.5 hours of afternoon walking, we reach our campsite at the foot of the soaring Tidri dunes.
Walking time: approx. 5 hours. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 3: Tidri – Erg Sahel

An exciting stage awaits as we ascend and descend the golden dunes of Tidri. We cross a rocky desert plateau (Reg) where silence reigns amidst the pristine sands of Erg Sahel. In the late afternoon, a leisurely stroll through the dunes allows us to savor a breathtaking Saharan sunset. In the evening, a campfire is prepared, and traditional bread is baked in the sand.
Walking time: approx. 5 hours. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 4: Erg Sahel Dunes – Ergabi – Ouled Driss

Our final hiking day introduces us to the serene desert scenery near the village of Bonou. Lunch is served near the village of Ergabi. In the afternoon, you will explore the authentic mud-brick architecture of Ergabi before reaching the village of Ouled Driss.
Walking time: approx. 4.5 hours. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 5: Ouled Driss – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

We begin our return transfer to Marrakech (450 km) along the Draa Valley route, passing through Ouarzazate and back over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with scenic photo stops along the way. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
Drive duration: approx. 7 to 8 hours return transfer.
