Day 1: From Marrakech to the Faija Plateau, passing by Ouarzazate
We’ll leave Marrakech early in the morning. We’ll go through the Col of Tichka, the most beautiful and the highest Moroccan road pass, to reach the city of Ouarzazate where we’ll have lunch. Then, we’ll go through the Col of Ait Saoune to get to the famous valley of Draa. We’ll discover ksars, the famous fortified villages, then Zagora which is the entrance to the great desert and, finally, the plateau of Faija where we’ll meet our cameleers’ team. Night in the tents.
Day 2: Faija Plateau to Oued Lemhasser
We’ll start our trek in the desert by climbing the small Col of Faija where we can enjoy a panoramic view of the plateau of Faija. We’ll discover a true mountainous desert (black mountains, with a sparse greenery and some nomads under the Bedouin tents made of goat and camel’s hair). Our lunch will be prepared next to the wells of Regabi. We’ll then go down along the Lemhasser river to reach our camp. Night in the tents. 6-hours walk.
Day 3: Oued Lemhasser to Chegaga Dunes
We’ll go down a beautiful desert valley before reaching a vast stony plateau, the entrance of the desert. The panoramic view of the sand desert (with the dunes of Chegaga looking so small from afar) is dazzling. At the end of the day, we’ll reach the dunes of Chegaga, where we’ll have a pleasant walk while enjoying the sunset. Night in the tents. 6-hours walk.
Day 4: Chegaga dunes to the Bougarn Dunes
Chegaga Erg is extended by several small dunes, east of the Bani mountain, towards the small Saharan town of Mhamid El Ghizlane and the Oued Draa valley. Our lunch will be prepared by our cook under the tamaris before getting back on our way to the dunes of Bouguern, a beautiful and secluded place. There, we’ll find enough dry wood to light a campfire. Night in the tents. 5h30 walk.
Day 5: Bougarn Dunes to Oued Naam Dunes
We’ll wake up very early to enjoy the sunrise on the beautiful dunes of the desert. We’ll go through a flat desert made of small stones and a less stony plateau. We’ll get fresh water at the well on our way and reach the dunes of Oued Nâam, late in the afternoon, to enjoy our evening meal. We’ll spend the night in the tents, over the beautiful dunes of Oued Nâam, where nomadic caravans come to get fresh water supplies. 5h30 walk.
